Germany-wide distribution of merchandise, clinical study material, literature and advertising material from one source
At the beginning of 2020, Grieshaber Logistics Group AG took over the handling of logistics processes for a global customer in the healthcare sector. This company develops and sells products in the two business areas of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics in the fields of oncology, virology, inflammatory and metabolic diseases and diseases of the central nervous system. The aim is to enable patients to lead longer and better lives, particularly on the basis of personalised medicine.
The challenge in taking over this project was to understand the historically grown structures with the former service provider and to transfer them to Grieshaber. Due to the simultaneous impending product portfolio change on the part of the customer and the associated very uncertain database, very flexible and scalable structures had to be established. In addition to the usual pharmaceutical standard in the logistics sector, additional services had to be mapped in a performance-oriented manner, while at the same time ensuring fast decision-making processes and high flexibility. With one year's preparation time, the forthcoming implementation of this complex project was carried out in detail and meticulously. Through the formation of project teams on both sides and an open exchange from the very beginning, a basis of trust as well as a high degree of precision within the framework of the structures and areas of responsibility to be created was created.
In the area of distribution for commercial goods as well as for clinical study goods, the special feature is that not only the receipt and storage of the goods in the temperature ranges 2-8°C and 15-25°C as well as the picking and guaranteed same-day dispatch to pharmacies, hospitals and wholesalers of all orders received by 5 p.m. is carried out, but also that batch-controlled serialisation is implemented. In concrete terms, this means that Grieshaber takes over the creation of sales files for sales reports of serial numbers and their deregistration. Due to the direct integration of the customer's quality department into our document management system, we have created the great advantage that the release process of all documents can be carried out promptly and in close coordination. Thanks to the IT interfaces set up specifically for this project, there is also the greatest possible transparency for the customer and service provider.
The goods to be shipped are either sent as active transport or by passive cooling system (including preconditioning of the passive systems). This means that even German islands can be supplied without interrupting the cold chain. The organisation of transport orders as well as the handling of returns are also taken over by Grieshaber as part of its service portfolio.
As an additional service, Grieshaber also provides the dispatch of literature and advertising material for health care customers. In addition to the collection of advertising material, as well as picking and dispatch to field staff, patients, clinics and trade fairs, Grieshaber also takes care of transport organisation at home and abroad.
With the successful implementation of this project, Grieshaber has once again succeeded in solving complexity with high flexibility and innovative concepts in an intelligent and highly efficient manner.
